Fri. Feb 27th, 2004 Update about Ouachita National Forest:

A few moths back we brought you a story about the Planned changes in the policies for OHV use in the Ouachita National Forest, located in Oklahoma and Arkansas. We have received some encouraging news from our fellow readers on this subject. It seem that there were quite a few people who attended these open forums and utilized their email to send their comments in. Wed. Feb 4, 2004: Trail park one step closer

SCIPIO - About 16 area residents attended a state hearing here last week to discuss plans for an off-road riding complex which has been in the planning stages for nearly two years.

Ron Stahl of the state Tourism and Recreation Department said about 40 people attended the public hearing, but most represented the various agencies involved, including the Tulsa Trail Riders group which is proposing the project. The hearing is part of an environmental impact study required for a $504,000 federal recreation grant which is earmarked for the project.

Stahl said the environmental study, prepared by the Kiamichi Economic Development District of Oklahoma (KEDDO), is the final step towards releasing the grant to TTR.

The Tulsa motorcycle group proposes using the grant to buy 1,730 acres from former Sen. Gene Stipe to build up to 100 miles of trails for off-road motorcycles and ATVs, horses and hikers. More...

Wed. Sept 17, 2003: Government Agency seeks Ban on ATV's. Attention ALL atvers... We need your help in fighting this agency in it's quest to limit and/or ban ATV's in the Ouachita National forest. These types of limitations are the first step in closing ATV Parks around our state. We need to stand together to make our voices heard. Please take the time to write and call you State and Federal representatives to make them aware that you are against these proposed changes/ban.

7/14/05 After a great suggestion from b-mur in our forums we have created a Image map that you can click on to find out local riding area information in that state. We are asking our readers to submit your local riding spots (see announcement in the Lounge of our forums). If we see a trend of abuse we may have to suspend this section again. We ask that you take only what you need. If you feel you need ALL of the manuals they can be purchased from eBay for just a few dollars. We do not sell these manuals. Please help us continue to provide a valuable service for our readers.

10/31/03 We at Roosting The Dunes would like to apologize for the downtime that was experienced since last night. We have experienced some Bandwidth Issues. We have worked to rectify this problem and should be good to go.
