The Yamaha Banshee, like other
Yamaha Quads, suffers from a lack luster Air filtration system. The stock
filter slips into a groove molded into the the air box and is held into place
with the air box lid. Over time the foam gasket loses the seal and allows dust
or dirt to enter the carburetors clogging the jets. This stock setup also does
not allow for the removal of the air box lid for better airflow. A aluminum
filter adapter is a MUST HAVE in our opinion. It is a small price to pay for
extra protection. We
contacted Noss Machine
to purchase the adapter and as always they were very helpful and quick with
the shipment of our part. The purchase prices are $45.00 for just the adapter
plate, $90.00 with a K&N Filter, and $12.00 extra if you want the Outerwear's
Pre-filter.
We were eager to install
our part. We started by removing the the seat and air box lid from our 03
Banshee. Next we test fit our adapter and marked the holes for drilling. We
then moved on to mounting our adapter plate. The process is pretty straight
forward with the exception of having to use some grease to assist in holding
the rubber O-Ring in place while installing the adapter. We did have to remove
the support ribs from the bottom of the air box with a Dremel Tool to get our
K&N Filter to seat properly. Note: Make sure you cover the the
intake hole with a rag to keep any plastic shavings from entering the Carburetors.
After a few trial fits we had removed enough of the support ribs for our
filter. We replaced our air box lid and seat. We are done! We do recommend
that if you purchase a K&N Filter that you also purchase an Outerwear's
Pre-filter. This will provide better protection from even the smallest
dust particles.
